Nope...they go down as K's in our book.

They are recorded as an out in our stats. We do keep track of how many we hit for outs.

We count them as outs. If it's an out in the game, it's an out in the book...that's it. There is no counting them towards a players homerun total either. I've noticed on some local teams' websites that they keep "homeruns for outs" as a separate stat category, I disagree with doing that. We also do not count walks as hits, even though I've been told that that is allowed in USSSA.

i agree they should go downs as out ( but maybe that is just because i dont hit them) and a walk is a walk it should never go as a hit. you will be suprised at how many players count them as homeruns, or maybe that is just a lower league thing.

We count walks as walks. The home runs for outs are counted as outs. We do keep a running total of the HRO only so we know if we are having a problem with keeping the ball in the park. We figure this will help us with a determination of moving up or not in some associations. But the home runs for outs are not counted in an individual's home run totals.

My team calls HRO's morale shots.

With all due respect Jesse....How can lowering your batting average boost morale? Especially if it's the third out of an inning and you just left a teammate on deck.

I did our book for 3 years and a homerun for an out is an out in the book. I will say a walk is a walk, but they are just as good as a hit because we looked at OBP.

I have seperate columns on our stat sheet for homerun outs, homeruns, and inside-the-park homeruns. We play E and I know some of my players disagree, but if a player hits a homerun in a qualifier his first at bat and is ejected, however many outs were in that spot go against him so he could go 0-5. The way I see it is if it hurts the team it hurts your average.

A walk is a walk, never a hit. If a walk is counted as a hit shouldn't fielders choices or errors count as hits. Damn, no wonder there are so many players that claim to be 600-700 hitters! We finally found our answer to all the free agent 650 average hitters.

Walks is a walk. HRO is a HRO, not a HR.

We do charge 25 wings for a strikeout though.

Our team counts the HR as an out, A walk is a walk, But we go as far as not counting sacrifice fly's. Unless we're told to go ahead and count the run The fly out is just that. It really has to mean something for us to give you a sac fly.

If a guy hits a hr for an out, I say that guy should be suspended for the next game. That way he won't have to play the late game at Rumpke the following night and get home at 2 o'clock in the blessed a.m. In fact, that is a new team rule...

Master brought up another good point: sacrifice flies. I've heard people say there are no sacrifice flies in softball, and I say that's BS!! That's like saying there are no such things as solo homeruns, either. Yes, you don't get an out when you hit a solo but you don't really want to do that. Nor do you want to pop out, but if it scores a run, you've got to count it.

A perfect example was last year's Metro with us. All we had to do was get a sac fly to win the game, but we grounded out and lined out to the pitcher!! I definitely would have counted that sac fly, should it have gone down that way!!
