Sorry, back to the topic, never heard of that injury Liz? Have you researched it on the internet?

Exactly...I was actually asking a serious question. I dislocated my thumb and tore both ligaments and was diagnosed with "Gamekeeper's Thumb" and was wondering if anyone out there had heard of it or has gone through it. Right now I'm in a cast for at least 4 weeks (which SUCKS). It's called "Skier's Thumb" nowadays I guess. Any input would be appreciated!!!!!

Did you have surgery? According to this article "Following surgery, patients will be placed in a cast for four to six weeks to protect the repaired ligament. At that point, gentle motion of the finger will begin. Most patients are able to play sports 3 to 4 months after surgery."

Outlook
Acute partial rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament can be treated effectively with 4 weeks of immobilization in a special cast. Healing with full recovery is the rule with partial ruptures.
With a total rupture, either immobilization or surgical repair can result in partial or full recovery with the potential for long-term complications, including chronic pain and instability of the joint.
this is what my yahoo search came up with.

No I didn't have surgery as it was not a complete tear. I am in a stupid cast for 4 weeks...well 3 weeks and 4 days now :) Not that I'm counting or anything!!! I was just wondering if anyone had experienced it as I read online about it, but wanted to get a personal opinion from someone. Thanks!!!

Are you sure i'm 'allowed' to post on here? I know Liz and she asked a serious question, so I was trying to help her out! I didn't know that was a crime to help someone out, especially since you know them. Thanks for the heads up though!!!

I actually did this at the beginning of February. My family physician told me that it would heal without a cast. I am good to go now.
The only difference is I only had a partial tear in the ligament.
How did you do it?
I was playing hoops and got my thumb caught in the pockets of my shorts.

I had a total rupture of the ring finger on my left hand. It took about a year or so to get back to normal. Physical therapy sucked real bad!!!
It still doesn't straighten all the way or close all the way, but it is functional at least. I did mine playing flag football.

You had to ask....haha...I fell on the ice and put my hand down and my thumb popped. I went to the doctor a few days later and now I'm in a cast!!! He took x-rays and nothing is fractured or broken and the thumb is not loose enough to where the ligaments are completely torn, but they are definitely slightly torn. He put me in a cast for at least 4 weeks to allow them to heal and then therapy starts to begin bending my thumb again. I'm hoping 4 weeks is long enough in a cast adn therapy is quick. I'd like to play sometime in the near future!!!

I was maybe playing leagues with you guys, but no tournaments as I'm already on a tournament team. No I am put back in a cast (bright red) for 3 weeks (April 8th) and then in a removable splint and will start therapy for 4 to 8 weeks. I guess I'll be working on my statistician skills during the down time!!!

Oh I was just kidding. As long as you hold onto your beer, all is good. Seriously, thank you for doing the book. Sure makes life a lot easier on us with the game going on. I guess that means the cell phone is no longer working? That sucks.

No problem although I prefer using a laptop (as I do for Lakota West)!!! Think you could fit that in your budget?? haha Actually the cell phone works except for a few quirks. It was sending out random text messages afterwards though!
