Here is Riverstar's Ball Policy, which is the same at Eggleston as far as types of balls that are allowed.

From my prospective out in the swamp last night, as I looked up at the "light ball", I was getting yelled at by the dugout that the wind was going to push it back.

i really don't think it's the ball.....remember you are basically hitting UII's when these Utrip bats are fully broken in...
NSA is 44/400 now too.
we hit the ASA - yes 44/375 (can't be that much difference) - Thunder Advance and I don't think there is really any difference EXCEPT that the TA balls stay more consistent longer and don't turn into socks.....
worth balls are just as hard but only last an inning at best.
i've hit these balls a long time and we use them in league. i have been paying attention...
remember though, I live in Southern Indiana, maybe the atmosphere is different. This is all my opinion of course....

did you mean could or couldn't? i assume could...BUT, it's also 95 degrees and humid. that makes a BIG difference in a softball.
this TA ball has been out what.....3-4 years and now it's a problem??? i'm not causing trouble or trying to. I am very sorry people got hurt and it's really terrible. My prayers to anyone who got hurt for a game that is supposed to be fun and recreational. 99% of us have to work on Monday. I just don't think it's the ball's fault. personally i'd like to go back to a harder ball and less of a bat...but that's a different discussion...
i really think it's in the bats. most of these older bats are still in use and ridiculously hot and the newer ones seem to be hotter to begin with (mutant, titan, resmundo, frenzy, even Easton has a bat that will break in a lot quicker)
as hot as the bats are anyway could you imagine if some idiot shaved his bat and this happened? supposedly the bats used were stock....
i think a long hard look at what is going on overall in the game is warranted as Larks post said at the beginning. the HR hitters longest balls should be 350 and not everyone and their brother should be able to hit it out...(not that the HR is everything but that translates into BBS and danger in the infield) i have been saying that ASA has the right answer right were it's at. The 98MPH and 44/375 is good if you use a decent ball that meets the specifications. remember, it is MAX 44/375 so that doesn't mean all balls get to the MAX. Maybe the dudley's are over or maybe they are right at it...who knows, my vot is for the latter because the penalties for not complying are pretty steep. to me, what else does dudley really have???? i would think they would make sure the balls were legal so that they don't get caught with significant losses and a bad reputation...

If they aren't going to do anything, i think maybe the HR limits could be raised so that people don't think middle is the only place to keep the ball in the park...
just a thought. i couldn't imagine the backlash if Utrip and NSA decided to start banning bats. maybe the 53/265 they are testing is the answer...

So it was 92 and humid on Saturday and 88 and humid when Frank got hit? Both days were hot!
I am not talking about how far the ball traveled, I am talking about the difference in how hard the ball was shooting through the infield on the ground and line drives back through the box....YOU COULD TELL A MAJOR DIFFERENCE.
Look, I don't care if everyone uses the Dudley's if the pitchers wear protection to protect their faces. Arms, Legs...different ball game. I was saying it this weekend....If you pitch now, and after all these players have gotten hit in the face and you don't wear a helmet....To me you honestly have nobody to blame but yourself. I have said it before...Until they increase the HR limits...people are going to shoot for those gaps up the middle and one slip up...and the pitcher is hit. I know people say, well I never hit the ball up the middle....okay well some of us aren't dead pull or guaranteed opposite field hitters...IT HAPPENS.
I am all for the safety of the game, but I do know this weekend at the C not one pitcher was wearing a helmet, to me...THE PITCHERS ARE THE TONE SETTERS, seems like everyone else is a lot more worried about the safety of the pitchers, except the pitchers. I am not speaking for everyone here.

the weather joke i got it,cincy is different yes.
on raising home run limits,i dunno if that would work, imo there would be more people shaving bats to hit those limits than now.

i COMPLETELY agree. a lot of pride in not wearing a helmet.
i don't pitch and don't want to. but if i did, i'd look like a major league catcher. my job, family, etc. is more important than my pride...
i agree, there are many times that you don't intend to hit middle and do...but i think that if HR limits were higher (especially now that more can hit it out) it would keep 1/2 or more of the people from at least changing their swing, etc. and anything that reduces the % of this happening is a + IMO.
(BTW, I had no idea what the temp was when everyone was hit - i assumed since it turned to 90 within 2 weeks from the 60s-70s that it was before then)

I am sure USSSA C teams wouldn't have a problem hitting 4 HR's a game. I know I see around 3-4 HR's for outs a game, and that is when teams aren't even swinging for them, because they are out of them....I think if you allowed it....teams would hit them.

it was an idea...see post above...
2 things - make the bats so that if the endcap is removed by someone that should not be removing it, the bat changes color, kinda like the dye in those clothing stores in that tag...
raise the HR limits - because people really don't need to shave bats to hit HR limits...i RARELY see a team not get the limit in tournaments. I just think it's something else that reduces the chances of someone attempting to hit the ball middle...anything that reduces these chances can help significantly....

oh, and i don't necessarily think that the E team limit needs to be raised significantly - maybe to 1 with no offensive ejection - but raise the upper level ones to something more material because of the caliber of player...
C 5
B 8
A 10
Whatever...i'm not sure what the limit is in Utrip, we play NSA
but in NSA, to me 2 and 1 up is crazy for C teams...

I agree... 2 HR's for C teams is a joke. It is nice to hear teams in the Top of the 2nd hit a ball in the gap and everyone is yelling "GET DOWN" haha. I am all about making people more than just HR hitters and teams have to learn to hit the ball down and be wise with their HR's. I don't think 4 HR's is just going to allow people to swing for one every at-bat. The thing that cracks me up...is the majority of the USSSA C teams in the area will be playing A or Open in the metro...
What are the limits 6 and 8? Or even more? Imagine that...I bet the majority of them are hit.

That would be sweet!!! Or produce an expandable endcap. Once removed, it expands and you cannot get it back on...haha!
Or...Warranty stickers like they have on Xbox and PS3's. Once you try and open the shell on those systems and rip the tape, the warranty is void! That would be hard to do with a bat but I'm sure someone could think of an idea like that...The bat definitely wouldn't be returnable...
That's my 1 cent for the day...

true...but the teams would still be on a level playing field because they CAN both hit them and will. that's just more time they are out of the middle...
it's hard though to teach base hitting, balls just fly anymore. you hit a nice line drive that is a great hit only to find out it goes 325...

just make the endcaps like the old synergys where there sticked on and cant come off.the hole bat shaving issue is getting old imo. its hard to police the issue without the proper knowledge as to what a tampered bat looks like and what wear and tear is. ex. endcap seperation or endcap wear,or even just a well broken in bat.there is a nice thin sound to a shaved bat though i must admit ive heard a few here in cincy....

just puts umpires under alot of pressure on checking bats and a responsibility level i dont know if they would take for 20 a game.. a rough run threw of the bats could be possible but physically inspecting every bat for cracks endcap seperation and graphic wear would be tough.but they do it in the metro for asa so i dunno could be possible
